We are going to be straight with you — we are not lifelong cruisers with a dozen voyages under our belts. We are Kelly and Melissa King, and we took our very first cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas to the Bahamas. And it changed everything.
That trip is literally why Nexus Travel exists.
Before We Even Left the Dock
From the moment we stepped aboard the Radiance of the Seas, something shifted. The ship was beautiful. The staff was warm and attentive from minute one. We had booked a Grand Suite, and when we walked into that cabin and saw the balcony overlooking the ocean, Melissa and I just looked at each other and smiled. We knew immediately this was going to be something special.
The food aboard the Radiance was outstanding. We are talking genuinely great meals — not cafeteria-style cruise food you might imagine. Every dinner was an experience. The variety, the quality, the presentation — it exceeded every expectation we had walking in.
Life on the Ship
Here is something nobody tells you before your first cruise — the ship itself is half the experience. We spent hours just sitting on our balcony watching the ocean pass by. We watched sunrises that stopped us cold. We watched sunsets that made us not want to go inside. The Caribbean sky does things at golden hour that honestly feel unfair to people who have never seen it.
The atmosphere onboard was electric in the best possible way. People were happy. The energy was positive. Everyone was there to relax, explore, and enjoy — and that spirit was contagious. By day two we felt more rested and alive than we had in years.
Nassau, Bahamas
Pulling into Nassau was a moment. Seeing the colors of the buildings, the crystal blue water, the activity of the port — it was everything we had imagined and more.
Nassau gets mixed reviews from some travelers but we loved it. Yes the area right around the cruise terminal is busy and touristy — but step away from that and you find a city with real character. The Bahamian people were genuinely warm and welcoming. The food was incredible — if you ever get the chance to try fresh conch fritters in Nassau, do not hesitate for a single second.
The beaches were stunning. The water was that impossible shade of turquoise you see in photos and assume must be filtered or edited. It is not. It actually looks like that.
What That Trip Did to Us
We came home from that cruise different people. Not dramatically different — but quietly, meaningfully changed. We had experienced something that reminded us why life is worth living fully. The freedom of waking up somewhere new. The joy of exploring together. The simple pleasure of a great meal with nowhere to be afterward.
We started talking about travel differently. We started planning more intentionally. And pretty quickly we started thinking — what if we could help other people feel exactly what we felt on that ship?
That question is what became Nexus Travel.
Why We Tell You This
We could have built a travel agency website full of stock photos and generic copy about exotic destinations we have never visited. We chose not to do that.
We are real people. We took one cruise, fell completely in love with it, and decided to build a business around helping others experience that same joy. We are learning alongside our clients in many ways — and we think that honesty makes us better at what we do, not worse.
We will never sell you a trip we would not take ourselves. We will never recommend an experience we do not genuinely believe in. And as we travel more — which we absolutely plan to do — every experience we have will make us better advocates for you.
